Opportunity Resource Services (ORS) was founded in 2010 with the goal of alleviating poverty in rural communities by providing more opportunities for education, access, and exposure for first-generation, low-income youth. Our values are still at the heart of everything we do today, as ORS continues to expand our reach to serve more people who are underrepresented in programs of higher education.

Opportunity Resource Services (ORS) consists of three main programs that service the Johnson County area. All programs are funded by the United States Department of Education.
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Education that provides counseling and application assistance to any qualified participants interested in pursuing higher education. Higher education can be college, university, a trade school program, or any other training after the completion of high school or the GED. The EOC advisors are higher education advocates for our participants.
The Educational Opportunity Center leads and develops a wide variety of services for participants and the community. These services include college & career tours, webinars, in-person office appointments, presentations for businesses & organizations, virtual advising, topical live streaming on social media, and more. In addition to the services provided, EOC is active at many community events and functions.

Classic Upward Bound (UB) provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to support them as they pursue post-secondary enrollment in degree programs for STEM professions.
The Upward Bound programs (UB & UBMS) serve students Alvarado High School, Keene High School, Rio Vista High School, and Venus High School. Participating students engage in after school programs that are designed to provide subject tutoring, college & career exploration, college application assistance, financial aid counseling, and overall educational development. In addition to the after school programs, participating students are given opportunities to attend field trips and college tours . Each trip is meant to expose participants to cultural and STEM-related concepts and careers.
